Path4Med: Kick-off Meeting of the European Project for Sustainable Agriculture in the Mediterranean
23 September 2024Path4Med presented at the Agrifood Forum 2024 in Lithuania: innovation and Sustainability for the Future of Agri-food
30 November 2024On November 12th and 13th, 2024, the Path4Med project was presented at the second edition of the European Mission Soil Week, an annual event dedicated to promoting the Horizon Europe mission “A Soil Deal for Europe.” Organized by the European Commission, Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development (DG AGRI), in collaboration with the Joint Research Centre – European Soil Observatory (EUSO), the event received support from the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation (DG RTD) and the European Research Executive Agency (REA).
Path4Med falls under the European initiatives #Ocean&WaterMission and #SoilDealMission, as it aims to tackle a crucial challenge: achieving zero pollution of water and soil in the agro-hydrological systems of the Mediterranean basin and other seas of the European Union. The project adopts an innovative approach, based on three key principles, to ensure long-term sustainability and resilience.
The annual event, now in its second edition, primarily aims to foster dialogue and collaboration between researchers, policymakers, farmers, foresters, urban planners, landowners, businesses, and organizations. During the event, participants had the opportunity to discuss and exchange ideas on key topics for improving and safeguarding soil health in Europe.
The main topics addressed during the meetings included:
- Promoting the Soil Mission, through the presentation of project results and successful initiatives already underway.
- Soil health, with a focus on monitoring and improvement in different European regions.
- Networking among various stakeholders in the agricultural sector, creating new opportunities for collaboration.
Through a multidisciplinary approach, the project aims to create concrete solutions that can be adopted locally and replicated in other regions of Europe. Path4Med’s Demonstration Sites, which serve as living laboratories, are a key element for testing and adapting new technologies and methods.
