Path4Med: Key Player at the European Mission Soil Week 2024 in Brussels
15 November 2024The Path4Med project, funded by the Horizon Europe program, officially kicked off with the Kick-off Meeting held in Athens, involving 26 partners from 16 different European countries. This event marked the beginning of an ambitious multidisciplinary project aimed at promoting innovative solutions to address some of the most pressing environmental challenges in the Mediterranean basin.
Path4Med aims to eliminate water and soil pollution in Mediterranean agro-hydrological systems. The project integrates economic, social, and environmental sustainability to enhance human well-being and ecosystem functionality. Through collaboration among universities, research centers, NGOs, and companies, Path4Med seeks to develop an innovative integrated model to support sustainable and resilient agriculture in one of Europe’s most sensitive and strategic regions.
During this initial meeting, all project partners had the opportunity to:
- Present their respective organizations, including universities, research centers, NGOs, and companies.
- Hear insights from the Officer of the REA (European Research Executive Agency), who emphasized the importance of the project within the Horizon Europe framework.
- Delve into the work plan through the presentation of individual Work Packages.
- Visit several Demonstration Sites in Greece, where they could closely analyze local issues and evaluate potential solutions to be developed.
This inaugural meeting laid the groundwork for synergistic collaboration among the partners involved and mapped out the roadmap for future activities. The project, set to last 48 months, aims to achieve tangible results to promote sustainability in the Mediterranean region.
The Demonstration Sites visited during the meeting are a key element of the project: they will serve as living laboratories to test and adapt proposed technologies and methods.
In the coming months, the partners will focus on planning operational activities, sharing expertise and know-how to successfully tackle the environmental and social challenges of the Mediterranean basin.
Stay tuned for further updates on the Path4Med project and its future developments!
